YOUTH'S DEMAND FOR AN ADDITIONAL NATIONAL NO-TOBACCO DAY

World No- Tobacco Day is observed on 31st of May. In India most of the schools and colleges are closed at this time for the summer vacation. We need an additional no-tobacco day at some appropriate time so that students get a chance to be sensitized about the tobacco-problem. We need your support to make this possible. Students Movement Against Tobacco and Smoking (SMATS) which has been working in the area of tobacco control since 1998 initiated this drive to advocate for declaration of a National No-Tobacco Day in India. Over a period of time we have been able to garner support from different quarters and almost all major public health organizations working in the field of tobacco control have endorsed this drive.

With the efforts of the campaign team and support from the heads of the key organizations, the issue of having another no-tobacco day at the national level was incorporated in the declaration of  National Conference on Tobacco or Health (NCTOH),Mumbai 23-25 September 2010. With the efforts of the campaign team and support from the heads of the key organizations, the issue of having another no-tobacco day at the national level was incorporated in the declaration of NCTOH.
